The Rocky Horror Picture Show: An Interactive Experience
What to Expect
Do I have to dress up? Do I need to have seen The Rocky Horror Picture Show before I attend? What am I signing up for?
All these questions and more will be answered below.
Should I watch the movie before I attend?
If you've been to an interactive show before and know the call outs...AWESOME!
If you've seen the movie, GREAT!.
If you haven't seen the movie, WHO EVEN ARE YOU? JK! It's OK that you haven't seen the movie. You really don't need to know anything about it to have a BLAST!!!
What does "An Interactive Experience" mean?
Rocky Horror is the first and only true audience partici-(SAY IT!)-pation movie. People yell back lines at the screen during the extended pauses between dialogue, dress up in costume and act out the film and throw props various times during the film.
The audience participation phenomenon was observed as early as the film's first run in 1975 (when it bombed during limited engagements in 7 of 8 cities), and was later re-released as a midnight movie where the audience participation really began to flourish. And by the way, for the "gore sensitive", Rocky Horror is NOT a horror film. It is a rock-musical send-up of old science-fiction and horror films.
Enough history! You are interested in going, so here's what you really need to know:
First, the only thing you really need to bring for your first time is a sense of humor, your tickets and money for your favorite beer at Copper Trail Brewing Co. Of course, being surrounded by 10-15 of your friends is also a good thing.

Costumes, props and knowledge of the call outs are required by the crowd, but not by everyone. In fact, no one expects you to know much of anything your first time out. Virgins are not expected to know a damn thing (just like in sex.)
Do not arrive for the show intoxicated. We won't go into the reasons why...you're an adult, act like one. We do reserve the right to refuse admission if you are intoxicated (and NO, you will not get a refund).
Do I have to dress in costume? What can I wear?
Costumes are strongly encouraged, but you should dress in whatever makes YOU feel comfortable. Let go of your inhabitations and have fun with it!
Some form of clothing is required, this means nudity is out!
"Nudity" means the showing of the human male or female genitals, pubic area or buttocks with less than a fully opaque covering, or the showing of the female breast with less than a fully opaque covering of any portion thereof below the top of the nipple, or the depiction of covered male genitals in a discernibly turgid state.
(As stated by Minnesota Statute 317.292, Subdivision 3.......BORING, we know, but necessary.)

Props...what am I supposed to do with them and can I bring my own?
We encourage you to purchase one of our Partici-pation Kits. We will have a limited number of kits available for purchase the night of the show so reserve your tickets and kits ahead of time! The kit includes a list of the key scenes in which to use your props. If a scene requires you to throw props, please throw with caution. The general rule is UP & BACK not at the performers or the screen.
We do not allow you to bring your own props.
What is a call out and when do I say them?
For those of you that know some (or all) of the call outs, yell them at the top of your lungs!

You can certainly find a lot of resources online. Don't worry about memorizing all of them or even looking them up if you don't want to. There is one call out that you can use multiple times. Whenever you hear the name "Brad Majors", yell "ASSHOLE". When you hear "Janet Weiss", yell "SLUT". (We are not slut-shaming, just Janet-shaming.)
I heard that "virgins" get picked on. Should I be worried?
If you have never seen The Rocky Horror Picture Show in an interactive format, then shame on you! You will be called a "virgin" and you may be asked/forced to participate in a harmless rite-of-passage ritual. If you are worried that you might be picked, make sure you point out your virgin friends first! We can't tell you how we will pop your cherry, but once you see it, you may wish you had stepped up and owned your virginity. ;)

What are you waiting for?
WOW!!! You've made it this far and still haven't purchased your tickets. You must not like to have a good time. Oh, you do???? Click HERE to buy your tickets and Partici-pation Kit.
